Rather like the bird - the elf as you say is not owl its cracked up to be - baddaboom!

I'm going to have to be damn careful next time I order chinese take away anyway...

Yeah, that was my first thought as well. It looks too much like a resin ornament or an oversized toy animal conversion.

Man alive. I could never see myself using it in a game, but I sure want this. Totally agree on all the comments about it looking like a shelf ornament, so I guess I'd add some tells to the scale on it, maybe a dwarf in its talons or a gigantic identification tag on its talon.

As a weird little aside, I had a brief job plucking owls, for science. Underneath their feathers they look like the Skeksis:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skeksis.
