I have a lot of Fasa ships but nobody to play in my area.

25 years ago yes.  My ships haven't seen the light of day for quite some time.

played it a couple of times way back in the '80's - painfully slow and complicated from what I remember so we went over to the ST:FT modifications to Full Thrust from Felix Enterprises and the SFSFW for a fast & fun game especially using the "threshhold cards".

No, that's the current version of warhammer.

You know I am always amazed at the amount of starship combat rules there are out there, and many of them open design systems to boot, I must have been born in the wrong era.

Pair-a-dice Games in Rochester NY appears to be actively and enthusiastically supporting SFB or whatever its current form is.

Look up Knight Hawks, an oop TSR star ship fleet action game, they are easy to modify into a star treky ruleset. The game sets are usually pretty cheap on ebay.

Had a ton of SFB stuff, but had to give it up when I failed the degree level maths course required to run the game!!!

I used to play SFB when it first came out in a box, we played it a LOT in the 6th form at school.

I haven't played for years though I still have the original rules and first two supplements.

I did pick up Federation Commander which looks like a slimmed down version and plays faster and got some ships but haven't had chance to play it yet.

I remember playing SFB when it was still in a plastic bag. I played all through it's incarnations. I gave it up because it just took too D@MN long to play a "good" game.

I switched over to Full Thrust, then to "A Sky Full of Ships", and finally, to Klingon Armada (and Romulan Armada & Alien Armada). The folks that make SFB thought Starmada was good enough to translate their universe into those rules. I feel like my search for my favorite starship combat rules came to an end when I got those books. We use the SFB counters for the most part... saves table space, but we also get out the miniatures (SFB, Micro-machines, some homemade...) for a good rip-snorting time.

Longest game we've yet played... two hours. It entailed 2 fleets of 12 ships each side.

I still have my SFB rules. I translate the scenarios over to Starmada though.

I'm not a sock-puppet. I just love the game and want to share.

Thanks for all the comments. Looks like this post is the most talked about game not being played.
I looked for Stir fried beetles without luck.
I did find a demo version of Starmada that I downloaded.
If I find somebody to play I might try that or maby a Solo scenerio against a monster.

Star Fleet Battles lovers chagrin at the mention, but there's a somewhat simplified version known as Federation Commander, with a free quick play download at Fed Commander website.

Full Thrust is my favorite starship game, but it's played without hexes, which Starmada does, for the most part. Still, if you go to GZG's site, you can free download the game, but I suggest you go with all four books (FT, MT, FB1, and FB2). Use FT as the beginner's version, FB1 as the advanced, new, and improved, with everything else being candy.

Have had Starmada demo'd to me several times, found it as enjoyable as root canal, which I don't mind as much as some. Obviously, HUGE YMMV.

And the original SFB WAS a small pamphlet; it only grew to New York City directory size after years and years of people arguing the meaning of 'is' and the like. ;->=
