I agree that the photographing of the models could definately have been clearer. I was intentionally trying to blend the models as much into the background as possible. I already took this into account by lighting some of the pictures from one direction to get sharp (sun-like) shadows. Your comments probably mean I succeeded but I admit there was a trade-off and the clarity of the paintjobs suffers as a result.
I'm not a big fan of digitally adding backgrounds for my own entries (or editing out base edges for that matter, which I've also seen in this LPL). So next rounds will have hand-built scenic backgrounds as usual.
As far as being a painting competition, well, in my opinion the LPL is indeed much more. I don't just vote for the best painted models, I vote for the nicest entry. This includes scenery, composition, quality vs. quantity of models and overall quality of the picture. I also expect everyone to vote according to their own preferences and not according to mine

Fire Broadside> those are nice models! I was wondering if there were any 'prawns' on the market already but I decided to convert figures I had lying around purposeless for a decade in favour of buying new models, so I never got around to looking for them (and wouldn't have bought them at 15mm anyway
