AND purchased!

Edit: As reported on TMP, I had two hiccups. 1) Paypal wasn't too quick about getting notice to RPGNOW, and 2) copy I downloaded was missing first forty pages. I gather Customer Service is a one man show, but he must have a dozen arms. Fixed both issues before the EDIT button disappeared off my TMP posts. ;->=

Glad to know he fixed the corrupted file problem.  Not sure why some have been able to download and others not.  Since he was able to fix the problem, at least I know we didn't send him a bad copy of the file, that the problem was on their end.

Hope you enjoy the rules.

Could you post on TMP that the problem seems to be corrected?

He made a separate download id for me, so I'm not sure life's good for all, but I've already mentioned in TMP on two places that I was happy. Moral: check as soon as you download; expect the customer service to be a champ.

Wouldn't leave you hanging like that, Buck.

So what's your initial impression of the book?

I just downloaded my copy.

I'll second The_Beast's comments - its BIG.

Unfortunately I won't get to read it in detail for a while yet, but I will certainly check out any changes to the basic rules and Battles

Looks like I will be updating my playsheets very soon ....

If you know how to do mail merge with Microsoft Word and Excel, I have a spreadsheet and Word document I use to create the record cards I use when I run GASLIGHT games.  I plan on making them available on the GASLIGHTrules yahoo group.  It's pretty neat, because you just fill in the attributes for units in the spreadsheet and then open up the Word document and give it the Excel spreadsheet as the source document.  It's very easy then to update record sheets or create new ones for a new scenario.  I've been hesitant to offer the files, because I don't want to try to provide mail merging tutorials or get hate mail on various blogs and fora from people who don't know how to do mail merge and then blame lack of success on me.   ;)  If you are interested, send an Email to surdu@acm.org, and I'll send you the files to try out.

There is an optional rule for resolving melee quickly in GASLIGHT games that you might find interesting.

Oh,  crickies! When did you take up reading minds?

Sir Randall's perusing my print out at the moment, but I'm sure I'll have a comment on that!

Edit: Please note, I don't mind melee as is, if it's a duel, but when there are half a dozen folk around the table, and 'carrying on' while you fight it out may not work, short cuts can be very useful.

The beauty (I think) of what we put in there is that it is not exclusive of the normal melee procedure.  I find that it works really well for those initial engagements with full-strength units (resolving melee with one die roll), but that as units begin to take damage, you can revert back to individual figure die rolls.

I guess "big" is good.   ;)

Big is good as long as it's good too  lol

I've got the old GASLIGHT booklets already, but am certainly going to buy this for both the convenience of having it in one volume and also the cool new stuff.

Well, at a minimum it is AS GOOD as the four books, but cheaper for those who have not already invested in GASLIGHT.  (Yes, amazingly, there are people who DON'T own GASLIGHT.   ;) )  We think it's a really good book, but we're biased.   :)
