Who makes this vehicle?
« on: 20 May 2011, 04:31:43 PM »
Who makes the Heliodorus mortar vehicle in the bottom left of the hammers slammers website?

http://www.hammers-slammers.com/home.htm

It's sporting an old crow turret. If it's an old crow wip, any ideas on when it might be available?

EDIT : oh and please tell me it's 25mm...

Like you say, it has an Old Crow mini turret and it also has Old Crow Claymore wheels.

I have had a potter around and can't find any pix anywhere...it looks a bit detailed for Old Crow though...I was thinking it may be GZG but they are a bit rustic too...

It could be a case of using a modern vehicle and chopping it up...

...sorry I have been no help...

Looking at the generated galleries, I have noticed that it is modular.  There are a number of vehicles made from the same 4 building blocks:  Front with screen, middle with screen, middle without screen and rear with door.  I suggest that these are home cast, using the wheels and turrets/equipment from on-line sources (Old Crow).  I am remembering seeing the components for the main body sections somehwere...but I can't remember where...

...I'm still on it though :)...

There was a post on the Work In Progress forum an age ago...I think it was there that I saw it.  The wheels I think are from DLD Productions (now OOP) rather than Old Crow.

I have just seen your latest post and I hope you don't find the need to re-paint what you've done already :( ...it is pretty awesome.

You?  Paint some Grymn?  I'd like to see that ;) !

I am still searching...I quite like that bendy vehicle...

I think that if you look at the model, it is made up of cast resin segments.  I also think it was a 'home-build' where the modeller has cast the main building blocks and then used after market components to finish it off.

The front cabin looks to be two parts (top and bottom) and has enough room for the first set of wheels.  Then there is a cabin section (which could probably be one piece) that has enough room for another single pair of wheels.  There are two variations of the cabin section...one with window and one without.  Finally there appears to be a rear section that just attaches to the rear of the cabin section...I also forgot the 'ammo box' that replaces a wheel.

If you mix and match the individual segments, you can build the basic 6 wheeled 'Centurion' AFV or add as many sections as you want.

The Mortar vehicle uses two rear sections on the trailer (one at the back and one at the front) and has an extra 'bendy-joint' component...maybe scratch built or even another cast item.

I hope these do appear for sale but I think it is a home cast item to fulfil a role...

I have looked everywhere for these and there are two possible options:

1)  It has been built specifically by Old Crow for the release of the Crucible rule book for Hammers Slammers and may be released in the future.

2)  It has been converted by someone like Kevin Dallimore, using home cast hull sections and bits and bobs from Old Crow (who would be happy to allow him to use them due to all the publicity he gets for them).

Been looking for a Viking model for ages - how did I not see this? Was hoping to get an injection plastic one so I could convert it, but this looks nice.

Inso I suspect you are right, shame I was hoping there might be a production model on the horizon...

I'm looking at the common chassis for the Trojan, slingshot and provider truck, And wondering if I can shorten that to a two axle unit, then using a mix of Trojan slingshot and new boxed provider body parts make up the elements of cab and trailer..

Won't be cheap though.

I prefer the articulation on the slammers vehicle than that on the Viking model. I have a sneaky plan of how I can make an articulation piece that actually articulates :D

Inso - can you link to the pictures of "a number of vehicles" please. I'm drawing a blank other than the pic on the front page.

Some here:

I quite like this too:

There are also a few here:

http://www.hammers-slammers.com/crucible_gallery3.htm

And there is also the PDF that you can download...the vehicles are on page 6 of the PDF (page 60 of the book).

Will that do you  :D ?

I've E-Mailed one of the authors too.  Hopefully he'll be able to shed a little light on the proceedings :) .

...not really a re-use.  In the film it was in desert colours and was a prototype bridging vehicle...before he re-appropriated it of course.

I also think that the modular vehicle IS 25mm...looking at the scenery and stuff.

EDIT:  I have tried John Lambshead...so out of the three of them, we may get some answers :).

Answered over at TMP:

It is 28mm stuff that is waiting to go in the Old Crow shop...eventually (by the looks of it).
