Chinese pirate ship help
« on: 09 July 2011, 05:45:40 PM »
My friends and i have recently been playing around with the Boilers and Breechloaders rules for TSATF. We've decided to build some boats for a fictional campaign and I have decided to outfit a Chinese pirate ship. I have a really nice cannon to arm the ship with, but what I really need are two things.

A Chinese rocket battery and a Chinese dragon head for the front of the junk. Anybody know where I could come upon these items?

Thanks,
Tom

Have you considered the Choson Korean rockets from the Perrys?  Bears Den do one as well IIRC.

The dragons head is going to depend on size. There are lots of resin ornament dragons around that can be picked up cheap on market stalls etc. or if you can throw more money at it there are quite a few metal ones around such as the small Citadel one and the much bigger old Grenadier that you should find on evil bay. I scratched on to put on a Korean turtle ship I did a few years ago.

Will this be a scratch build project? If you want to convert a plastic Chinese Junk, then I would suggest trying to find a Mega Bloks "Empress Junk" from the Pirates of the Carribean line. That one is a good size for 28mm. I think there is a cannon or two in that kit, although the cannons are grossly oversized for 28mm, at least for shipboard use. Those could be put ashore in a Chinese fortress.

I used a GW rocket battery for my chinese. Come from the volley gun plastic kit.http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=18782.msg226569#msg226569

I am afraid I tried and failed to find a dragon head for my build something entry. So I went for a painted dragon face.

Thanks for all of the ideas and pictures. I'm using an Old Glory Chinese junk for starters.
I have an old Chinese muzzle loading cannon that i got somewhere, and I'm going to use the GW volley gun rockets as well.

This Pirates of the Caribbean toy (3rd movie) has a good dragon-headed cannon you might be able to use. You can find them cheap on ebay.
