Cleaning greenstuff off lead minis?
« on: 29 August 2011, 05:46:53 PM »
I've got a Nice old citadel wood elf that I foolishly one year threw some greenstuff on. Does anyone know of a way to get it off without damaging the mini underneath?

A soak in acetone will loosen it up a bit.  Shouldn't harm the mini.

Just checking, it is a metal wood elf? Can't see acetone would be very good for the old plastic ones...

I have had good results using Dettol to remove greenstuff (+ acyrlic paint) from white metal. Sometimes it will come loose overnight but I have also left minis for 3 months +  they don't seem to have come to any harm. It can leave a disinfectant odour in which case I have put the minis in a sealed plastic bag with a good handful of flour, which seemed to absorb the smell. I think the minis were in the bag for a week or so.
My LAF Gallery is HERE
Minis (foot & mounted) finished in 2025 = 74
(2024 = 38; 2023 = 151; 2022 = 204; 2021 = 123; 2020 = ???)

Great thanks guys. One woodelf going into soak in Acetone (as I have that to hand) if that doesn't work I'll try the dettol.

Edit:
After spending the night in a bath of acetone the greenstuff is peeling off nicely. One more bath and the last of it should be off. Thanks guys.
