Some old pictures (SCW period) of my father as military man
« on: December 01, 2011, 12:19:16 PM »
I uploaded the pictures in my blog as a small tribute to my father's memory, and I was not sure about posting this here as the pictures may be a bit personal, but then I thought they are interesting enough as historical document.
There are seven pictures in total and here you can see just one, the others at my blog: http://javieratwar.blogspot.com/2011/11/some-old-pictures-of-my-father-as.html

I hope you find them interesting.
Cheers,

Fascinating stuff - thanks for posting!  Any idea on the years for some of those photos?  The first two, based on the vehicles, are from the late 40s or sometime in the 50s/60s?

Loved the diving suit picture!

Thank you for the best wishes gents.
I'd say the pictures in Africa were taken in the late fifties.

Thanks for sharing your photos.
Hope you are able to get your father's medals back.
I know how you feel, my Dad gave his WWII Pacific war medals to my brother many years ago,
that was a big mistake. :(

Nice photos.

Best of luck with getting the medals etc. At least my grandfather's WW1 medals and father's 1950s National Service memorabilia have ended up with me - as the person most interested in the family. I don't know where they'll go after me - I'm not sure my niece or nephew would care for them.

Unfortunately family can be inconsiderate regarding heirlooms.
Hopefully you get them back.

My grandfather sold his WWII medals and get to a collector as he thought no one would be interested in keeping them. I know my dad would've taken them. I was only 13 or so at the time but I would have cherished them.

Yes it can. One of my brothers in law has my father's sabre (he's a military man as well). He asked it to my father when I was a child and I didn't realize the sabre was gone until I showed interest in it years after. My brother in law will hardly give it back to me, but he's old...
Regarding the medals, one of my brothers gave them all to a well known person in Spain who may return them back as far as my brother ask him to do it, but he's reluctant to do that.
