Castaway Arts & Perry Sudan Ranges
« on: 12 November 2011, 11:00:56 PM »
Gday
I also picked up a  couple of things that I forgot to mention that I picked up some Castaway Arts figures from Jerry last week.
The service was very prompt as usual ,and while not every model is a gem ,some are fantastic.
In fairness the Range is a bit mixed with some of the older ranges like Egyptians ,not that flash at all ,however  in particular his Fuzzy Wuzzy foot are very nice and I dare say approching Perry level, they certanily fit in with my Perrys ,and that is indeed the highest praise I can make .
There are even some very nice unique /one off models that Castaway make that Perry does not ,well worth looking at for the Sudan.

I did also pick up some Perry Plastic Mahdists from a convention a few weeks ago

I was gutted when I heard that the plastics were coming out ,as I just purchased an obscene amount of Metals .
However will probably get flack for this ,&  I am a big Perry Fan, but while nice the generic spue does not cut it for me .
I feel you end up looking like the whole unit is in " Mahdist March Attack'  lol as I call it.
In addition the assembly of the figures is a nightmare  unless you are Edward Scissor hands ,and involves much wailing ,knashing of teeth ,& loss of blood and a ton of time wasted.
For me Plastics will augment the metals, they can not be beaten, and if you want your Sudan to look like Franks Sublime stuff  :o :o this is the way to go .
Cheers

Have to agree with you on this one. I bought 5 boxes of plastic Mahdists at Derby but am dreading the thought of all that assembly, cutting, glueing etc. I was expecting a bit more than the same sprue repeated over and over, maybe my expectations were too high, but I bought stacks of metals too in order to augment the plastics and stop each unit looking the same. I think you need a balance of both, use the plastics to 'bulk out' units cheaply, but still put metal figures in there to give them some personality.
