sticky resin !
« on: 15 November 2011, 07:43:53 PM »
hi

ive recently been painting up some resin tanks, and have noticed one of them seems to be "sticky" to the touch

i did wash all the pieces and rinse/dry, this stickiness seems to be going through a layer of undercoat and a wash

the paint itself hasnt been damaged or is coming off, just wondering if anyone has encountered this before ?

The resin hasn't cured properly and there 'ain't much you can do about apart from mention it to the company in question and get a replacement.

cheers

You may find that leaving it to sit on a sunny windowsill for a few weeks cures your problem. UV usually helps the resin to set.

As you have already painted it I am not sure if this will work, but it is better than nothing...

For future reference, definitely contact the manufacturer/supplier before doing anything with it beyond washing it!

It could be that the resin used has gone off! The surface will cure but underneath it stays a bit gloopy...

I'd second putting it in the sun as uv light might do the trick.

I have a missile silo that does the same, even Hammerite won't stick.  Will leave it out in the sun for a while and see.
