aluminium frame notice boards
« on: 09 May 2012, 11:47:45 PM »
I know a few folks on here have used aluminium frame notice boards for skirmish tables and am thinking of doing something similar...

so for those with such boards - what I'd like to know is, from what I can see of the frame, the aluminium slots around the board, so would it be possible to recover the board with grass matting and then put back the aluminium framing - or have I misunderstood how these things are made?

cheers...

I don't know the answer to your question, but thanks for bringing this notice board table method to my attention!  I have to make one for myself.

We have dozens of these at work and regularly have to replace the boards so theoretically the answer is yes but as the edging is snug you may be limited with what you can do. Some brands are more difficult to deconstruct than others too.

why not just glue the grass to the board itself, and carefully cut the leftover mat away leaving the really nice metal edging behind?
seems dismantling it may be a completely unneeded step.

yeah, I just figured it would be keep the edges nicely secure... but as Silent Invader has been getting away without that  :D

@ Ithaquatini  here is Silent Invaders original thread - http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=11230.0

and then his grass side - http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=12467.0

I've ordered a cork board, the plan is grass one side and hopefully the cork will do for a concrete surface for urban/bunker stuff...

I had a look at the one in my office - the edging is held in place with screws, and to echo what Svennn says, there is virtually no clearance between the edging and the board. Anything much thicker than a cotton sheet and you'll bend the edging refitting it.
Measure with a micrometer, mark with chalk, cut with an axe, hammer to fit, paint to match!
