Not the best photo but I did this with

1. GW Blazing Orange
2. GW Red Ink (add chesnut ink to vary the red colour)
3. Drybrush With GW Blazing Orange
4. Very light drybush with yellow of choice, I used GW Sunburst Yellow.

It makes for a very bright vibrant red.

This looks great! I need to do some red heads too, so I'll be using this recipe. Thanks

Thanks! You can easily experiment with varying the colours by adding more or less chesnut ink, or by mixing red or light browns into the basecoat. Let us know how you go  :)

Argonor is right, she is from Hasslefree and is sold as a "Mystic Warrior Child" (a NOT Jedi...). Great mini, but she is tiny! Perfect casting and sculpting though as you would expect from Hasslefree.

Not-jedi - but have you seen his 'mystic family' deal? You get coloured acrylic rods  ;)

You do know that when you start painting the hair red you also need to start painting feckles  ;)

Seconded. The hair and robe are top notch.
Is that built up from a blue/grey?

Thanks for the comments all. (sorry to hijack the thread....)  :)

The robe was done by a sort of reverse layering method.

1. I undercoat with white primer.
2. Wash all the folds of the robe (even the shallow ones) with really thinned light grey (I used GW Fortress Grey) - less is more; you can always come back and add more grey later if needed!
3. Especially deep folds I washed with thinned GW Codex Grey right in the depths of them
4. Re apply pure white to the raised parts of the robe with a layering technique to add depth leaving a touch of light grey in the light folds, and the darker greys blended into the heavy folds

Try it! It is all a bit of trial of error. The worst that could possibly happen is to strip it and start it again (one reason I am loath to buy plastic figures...) but more often than not I am pleased with how my experiments turn out.

Here's a few pics that go with my recipe for the red hair below- note that it's quite naturalistic and not an exaggerated look on the mini.

Sorry about the pics but they had to be taken in a hurry.

This is a great recipe and quite realistic:

All Vallejo model colours:

German Cammo Black Brown
Mahogany Brown.
Mahogany Sand.
Add Orange Brown to Mahogany Sand to taste.

Darrell.

That one is close to the darker version of my recipe. I prefer avoiding orange and pure yellow colours, as they are rarely seen in real life, except on painted surfaces.
