I was flicking through the 1st edition 40K rulebook a couple of weeks ago and the rules for Las-Cutters got me thinking. Las-Cutters are pretty big pieces of kit; heavy, industrial strength lasers used for cutting through steel walls among other things, and knock 3" off the move rate of anyone handling them.
It seemed to me that something that heavy could do with being represented on the tabletop, so with a few cogs from my bitz box to represent the "barrel" of the cutter and a doll's house kitchen range I kitbashed one. It's about half an hour's work, mostly done while I half-watched a film I had seen before but the other half hadn't.
The rings on the cooker made for dials/data screens, and the kitchen sink made for a nice open hatch to show the laser beam glowing. In hindsight I wish I'd painted warning chevrons at the business end of the cutter and around the hatch, but I'm happy enough with it as is.
