Help positioning mast on a stormstalker?
« on: May 19, 2012, 02:23:52 AM »
Hola!

Working on modding a pair of storm-stalkers, not sure what each one will be yet, thinking a british merchant ship for one and the second one not sure, might do Templar ship or something. I removed the front part to extend the main decks ( instead of installing much cooler looking forecastles)

I was hoping for help positioning the 2 mast on the merchant ship to make it look " a little more realistic"

That is, if a ship even had a spanker that big, I honestly do not know. Any how here is my question.

I still have not installed the bowsprit and am planning on using jib sails, would this size ship ( thinking of a merchant ship) have just 2 mast and a spanker or should I install a mizzen mast and remove the spanker alltogether?

This is what I was aiming at initially,

I was thinking about a hybrid Brig of sorts.  Are the mast acceptable where they are or should I move them forward or backwards?

Is this the right place to post this question or should I do it in the workbench? Was thinking here since this is where I have seen most of the ship conversions posted.

Any help would be much appreciated, cant start planking the decks until I am certain where I will install the mast.

While I am certain everyone will have an opinion on this, truth be told there were several variants of either type of ship based on the current captains attitude and wants/needs. As repairs were made after storms and battles the ship would evolve to fit the desired changes.  Even in the military they would have variations from ship to ship (although never that extreme). If you like the way it looks and playability is good I would leave it!

It's not easy to be precise when adapting one of the plastic toys from Mega Bloks or Playmobil. Sometimes it is just best to leave as is. Sometimes one is limited by how far one can move the masts based on other stuctures in the plastic toy. Sometimes one just has to be practical and leave enough room between masts and rigging to allow moving figures about on deck. Since you are probably using 28mm figures with the Mega Bloks, those plastic toys are great for lots of deck room for a melee. I agree with Ninja that whatever looks good enough to you will be OK for pirates.

Thanks for the advice guys, was just wondering if the spacing would look good. I removed the front cylinder and didnt make a forecastle just to extend the deck and maybe look like a merchant ship with very few cannons on deck.
