WW1 Turkish uniforms
« on: 18 February 2008, 09:09:52 PM »
So I'm sitting down to start on the awesome Brigade Games Turks I got, Osprey in hand, and it would seem that a light brown for almost everything is the way to go. Are the canteens metal or in a gray case? I'm happy that they are simple but I'm wondering where I can add a little variation. The company commander pack has to get some attention, rank badges or something. I'd like these guys to be fighting in Palestine or Iraq.

Helen, I heard somewhere you may have painted a Turk or two at one time. Any advice? If you've already doled out the crown jewels on this topic, just point me to the thread.
thanks!

Probably has nothing not covered by the Osprey but worth a look anyway

Hi SB,

Firstly my Turks were all painted by my friend Leroy. I've only just started painting my own and doing okay sofar - Considering that I like to field a large number of figures on the gaming table.

Looking at the Turkish troops you can give them variations of brown shades, khaki colour variations and Grey-green. Metal cap to finish off.

Note: This is only a painting guide for the water bottle 8)

The Turks were also supplied from their allies as well so this can give you some poetic licence. Don't forget in the desert everying fades 8)

Hope to see some of your work in time.

Best Wishes.
Best wishes,
Helen

I did mine in Vallejo 879 green brown, mainly because nothing else I have is in that colour.  They look OK and can easily be identified on the table so I don't ask for anything more.

I have a photo of a uniform somewhere and it is very much a pale desert sand colour. This is what I'm going for with my Turks, as you seem to see it in many illustrations (and I personally like it, it's very much a taste thing). I'm saving the more familiar green/brown for the officers. I've done my artillerists in the white summer uniform, and perhaps will do the machine gunners the same.

Thanks for the help, guys. I'll think I'll try something light first off, maybe some foundry drab or rawhide.
