FOF- Movement Rates for 28mm
« on: August 27, 2012, 11:39:03 AM »
What are 28mm FOF players doing about movement rates?

are you just doubling the rates from the book?

or scaling to the table-size?

actually this goes for all measurement in the rules :)

So far I haven't had a problem with the movement rates as the games have been on the table size recommended in the scenarios or a little larger. Tho sticking to the original rates on a bigger table does encourage a cautious player to get a move on lol When we have gone to a bigger table rather than doubling the rates we've scaled to the table size, so an 6x4 table has a movement rate of 9" Tactical and 18" Rapid move and that seems to work ok.
Hope this helps

I would agree that using the standard movement rates on the average table seems to work fine.  If anything, I wonder if increasing the firing ranges might be more in line with a larger  scale.  Any suggestions there?

I use 4x4 table, and just double the move rates- It sometimes seems a bit fast when you rapid move, especially as I am used to 40K, but I kind of like it- It stops things being too predicable- you thought you knew where someone was, but the next thing they're in your back yard, kicking in your door.

We double all distances.  Movement, range, map size etc.  Keeps the game dynamic.

Playing with 28mm minis using the 15mm table size and ranges just doesn't look right to me. But this is a purely personal observation.

When I have played FoF expanding the table size but using the standard ranges using 28mm minis, it seemed too slow.

Finally, I am limited to a maximum 4x6 table size, so we need to modify the maps for some secanarios.  Frequently the scenarios are used to inspire our own, rather than playing them out exactly as described in the books.

We (our gaming group) have been very happy with our 28mm Force on Force games doubling all ranges, etc.
