Opolchenie figures in 28mm??
« on: January 12, 2013, 12:22:49 PM »
Hello all,

Can anyone recommend Opolchenie/militia figures for 1812 Russians in 28mm besides Wargames Foundry? They need to be compatible with Perry.

Cheers
Fuzzy
Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly
down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red
Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture,
torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals.

Steve Barber have some, I am not sure of the size though. They are probably on the small side. Regardless, their standard bearer is something special  ;):

I'll try and do a comparison pic with a Foundry figure over the weekend.

Are those Essex Opolchenie Napoleonic? I ask because all your other Russians are late 19th.

Yes, they are Napoleonic.  I use all sorts for my VSF armies, I mean look at the naval unit!!

Here they are, the Opolchenie that is, in the Essex catalogue:

Aren't the Foundry Russians supposed to be larger than normal? If so Front Rank figures might be ok. I have all of the Moscow militia and they're nice figures.

Here is a quick comparison shot of Front Rank opolchenie and Perry plastic infantry.  I'm thinking that I'd have been better off to get the slightly more expensive Foundry opolchenie - the regiment pack I got from FR contains 22 identical figures!  I'll see what I can do to mix them up a bit when painting them, but consider that the Foundry ones have more variety for what is, after all, militia.

Still, for my army, they are close enough in size (however note that I have no problem mixing FR, Perry, Old Glory and Warlord in my 1812 army!).

They are a bit heftier aren't they. I don't have any Perry but I'd been told they were ok scale wise by some and not ok by others.
