Oval "African Shield" help - Please
« on: 25 February 2013, 02:12:59 PM »
Hi Guys,

I've been building quite a few of the plastic Perry Mahdists and up until now I've built them all as Beja tribesmen to use in my early Sudan games. I want to now use some of the remaining 'bits' to create some similar to what the Perry's call on their website "Kordofan" tribesmen.

So far so good....

To finish off the unit and make it different to my others I need about sixty 'oval african shields' like those on the Old Glory web site. (see link)

http://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/proddetail.asp?prod=CSD-08

Anybody have any ideas where I can get them?
Preference would be in the UK as that is where I'm based but that's a minor consideration.

Thanks in advance

Tim..

Contact Old Glory and see if they'll part them out for you. It's worth a try. I feel like they have done that for people, I've also heard they don't separate individual figures from packs. The reason I'd ask is because the shields might be on a separate mold.

Go through this site:
http://oldglory25s.com

Old Glory is odd in that they have their own site, and a third party site that submits orders back to Old Glory proper... at least that's how I understand it.

If you can't, to get that number I'd do something dastardly... get one shield of whatever type you want, sculpt your own, add detail to one of the shields you already have to diversify it, whatever... then buy some 'Insta Mold' and greenstuff/sculpting putty and press mold them.

Isn't that just a zulu/matabele shield?

If so, Northstar sells packs of them
http://www.northstarfigures.com/prod.php?prod=1935

Edit* Doing some searches, no it's not. Have you tried the Perry's?

Isn't that just a poorly sculpted zulu/matabele shield?

Same basic shape, but not really the same...

Ninja'd :)

The Perry packs have some in but I don't think they do packs of shields. You could try asking them or perhaps Dave Thomas?

Thanks to all for the suggestions and info.

I think I'm going to go with modelling one myself and taking casts.

Cheers,

Tim.

You can order loose shields from old glory:

Just provide the details (pack origin, etc.) and you're good to go. I've done it a few times without any issues.

That's a great link joekano, thanks.  I can't find a similar link on the UK site but I have emailed them, so fingers crossed.
