Please help me figure out how to mount this pack gun shield

Good morning, lead miniature enthusiasts!

Many years back I bought a really lovely pack gun with a sikh crew and mules to carry it.  Finally got around to assembling the little gem, but the shield seems as though it would fit in many different ways.  Don't know if it should be vertical, or angled, and I've failed to google up a photo of the real thing.  Who can help me here, please?

I think I may have made Sikh skin a bit too dark, otherwise I'm happy.

I think you're fine on that score, Chick.

Thinking of a few famous Sikh cricketers, while some do have lighter skin than that, I don't think you've wandered outside of the spectrum of Punjabi skin tones,
