Sounds interesting, one question though? If playing solo how do you backstab yerself?
 ???

Unfortunately the solo rules -understandably- ditch the Drachma based bribery/backstab mechanics. Still it's only an extra element to the game and it's still quite fun.

With another game coming up next week I finally managed to finish my Persian Warband!

First up is the Archers. These guys I'm probably the happiest with, capturing some of the unexpectedly bright patterns and designs that were prevalent in the...Achmeniad (?) empire.

Next is the Spearmen. I wasn't a huge fan of their shields, but ran with it. I much prefer the Hoplon, but felt light shields would be a nice to showcase different mechanics.

Now we've my Second, the guy underneath the Warbands leader. He's built from a Victrix sprue compared to the goons being Wargames Atlantic. I had the idea in mind that he was more of a bodyguard and gave him a Hoplon to represent that. I kind of buggered the freehand design on the front, but all the Persian designs were crazy, so anything is better than nothing.

Finally there's my Warband leader, a mixture of Wargames Atlantic and Victrix kits. He's somewhat less impressive than my Greek leader, but significantly cheaper.

The warlord looks dangerous to his opponents. WGA and Victrix work very well together for kitbashing, especially with the Persians.
If I achieve such a victory again, I shall return to Epirus without any soldier

A much late message, but a second game was had! This time with scenery and a scenario to boot.

My persians had to stop the wily greeks getting a message across battlelines. While on the surface my archer heavy force seemed like it'd have the advantage, the gods decided otherwise.  With a mighty crack of thunder Zeus let forth a rainstorm. Or to be more clear, I drew "No shooting" on the random events cards. This was actually a blessing in disguise, as I used these spods for human blocks and managed to cinch the win!

So it turns out I made a bit of an error when building my spods. On the random events table there's a chance, just a chance mind you, that you'll get some reinforcements in the form of 3 lads with Hand Weapons and Heavy Shields. So, one ebay purchase later and I've sprues on the way.

As is though I built and painted a Persian musician. While the horn doesn't do much, I'm interested in possibly giving the game SPQR a shot, and that uses musicians for a buff.

Another game, another victory for Persia!

Showing how flexible the system is, my opponent bought his old SPQR Romans to the table. It always helps when a system uses profiles instead of factions.

We also found out how OP Philosopher is as a Captain/Second trait (when you build your leaders they're customisable) since you can just cancel out a game mechanic on a 4+.

Its taken some time, but here's a few more persians. Three sword-and-board, with one Spearman as well.
