Pallets
« on: 09 June 2013, 03:57:25 PM »
I was asked on my blog to do a tutorial on how I make pallets and I thought I would post the information here too.  They are useful as scatter scenery for any modern modern genera from the twenty's on.
Materials:
wood coffee stirrers
wood matchsticks
PVA or white glue (depending on your country of origin)
First I cut wood coffee stirrers and match sticks.  They are cut to the same length.  1 1/2 inches.

Then I glue down the two outside internal supports (matchsticks) to the outside edge of a coffee stirrer.  The second coffee stirrer is used to support the matchsticks and are not glued.

I then glue in the middle support.  Note I did not measure in any way since pallets have some variation between them.

Then I turn the set pallet base over and glue another coffee stirrer to the other edge of the top and I add another strip roughly in the middle of the supports.

I then add the next two strips to finish the top of the pallet.

When set I turn it over and glue the three bottom boards.

When completed, arrange them in an interesting stack and glue them in place.

I usually make about twenty at a time so I have parts drying the whole time that I am working.

Hope you like.

Thanks a million! I was thinking about making some pallets, and I was going to take a little model one apart and cast it in resin, what a waste of time that would have been.
a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

Many thanks for the tutorial. I have taken the lazy option and bought plastic ones but real wood ones are far superior, just like the real things.

Excellent. Stocks of those make excellent harbour side labyrinths.

I glued mine into towers and stacks and weighted the bottom pallet with sheet lead to render it some stability on the game board.
