Mounted Figures for Unit of Mounted Rangers of the North (LotR)???

Hi Guys and Gals!

I'm playing an LotR campaign game with some friends, and one such friend has a unit of Mounted Rangers of the North under his command.  Not finding anything suitable to use on the GW site, we are looking for recommendations for a set of figures we could use for this unit. . . having dismounts would be a bonus!

Any others that you think might work better or come in multiples per pack?

It depends on what you want. If you want full armed Dúnedain like the Grey Company then it should big horses and tall guys with chainmail, spears, swords, shields and cloaks.

I think these miatures are perfect for that (Gamezone, mounted squires from the Feudal Knights range):



On the other hand, if you want rangers in their regular scout gear then it would be leather armour, lighter horses, hooded cloaks, swords and maybe spears and bows (however I don't think they had mounted archers).

But if you want them to be compatible with the tiny GW LotR range, then you can't use any of the above. In that case, mayve Perry Miniatures' Crusade range has something interesting for you:

Taking some of the existing mounted Rohan and painting their cloaks grey might be the quickest and dirtiest way.  You could give some unmounted figures the same treatment to give you dismounts.  I'd consider filing down their helmets a bit too, take off those horses to make them seem less like men of Rohan.
