A question for a plumber

I'm trying to make some barrels for some terrain and I saw a good tutorial for making them out of ring couplings like the one on this site.

The trouble is I google the name and try to find some at a local store but I can't seem to find any. Do they happen to go by any other name than this? I really want to make some barrel terrain out of them!!

And all the uk sites I've looked at either won't ship outside of the uk or charge huge amounts.
I've emailed one plumbing site here in nz but was just wondering if I could use the collective knowledge of LAF to draw upon.

Not sure how the craftsmen in New Zealand connect pipes or how they call that stuff... but basically it's for a straight connection of two pieces of pipe. They have no winding because they aren't screwed together but soldered together. You should find them in every DIY store, probably cheaper than overseas postage.

Actually a good idea, a piece of cardboard on top and you have a nice barrel with a good weight.

Some call it a 'yorkshire fitting', still need to look for 'straight'.

You should be able to find them at your local diy.
If you search for "plumbing solder fittings" or "plumbing solder coupling" you should find some online as well.

I've looked at my local store but couldn't find any. Maybe I'll try again.

Given that most DIY ranges are turning to push fit you might have to go to a big store to get copper fittings.

It's also worth remembering that given the price of copper this is a pricey way to make barrels. Ive done it, and they do look good, but only made them because I had them spare from a plumbing job.

I'll only be needing a few. Then I'll be casting them out of resin in a variety of different ways.

those things are used in air con installs. If you cant find them in the DIY ring an air con company and they will have a pile of offcuts they might let you have a look through.

I might look into that.

tamiya has a 1/48 set with barrels and jerrycans. Could this be a bit cheaper?
I saw them on ebay from some chinese seller for 5 € a box with 12 barrels and a ton of Jerrycans per box

We tend to use flex-conduit for barrels here.
Available in the electrical section of hardware stores.  Comes in a roll and I think you get about 4 metres for $10AUD.
(NOT the perforated drainage channel type.  This is the stuff sparkies use for running cables around corners and stuff where they need a curve and cbf'd bending regular conduit. 

Cut them down to 6 rings (for 28mm) and they scale pretty well.
