Kickstarter (and like processes) question
« on: June 06, 2013, 04:16:16 PM »
Okay, I am not an expert (and being home sick doesn't make me want to spend a lot of time searching when I can be sleeping - waking up ay 0200 yesterday and 0100 today only makes me want to sleep) but I see KS like projects for Fantasy, VSF, and Science Fiction but not for Historical themes.  Am I just missing them or is this (so far) primarily a non-Historical theme in such projects.

Back to bed, check this thread when I get up for a medical appointment...

Edit: Moderators, I thought the best place for this thread but move it if you disagree.

Gracias,

Glenn

The one historical Kickstarter I know of was by TAG. They were trying to raise 20k sterling for a very comprehensive range of 28mm Tudor English and Valois French figures. They managed to only get about 60% of the total required(can't recall the exact figures) and therefore failed as a kickstart project.
However TAG are going ahead with both ranges and have arranged it so that people who pledged on kickstart can still support the project.
I think the reason for the popularity/success of the scifi, fantasy and VSF kickstart projects is that as well as appealing to wargamers, figure painters and model collectors it also appeals to followers of other hobbies/obsessions - comic book fanatics, sci fi aficionados etc.

I suppose it helps that the main historical model manufacturers churn out enough to finance future projects without begging for money and the customers are always satisfied and mature enough to not warrant stupid companies taking risks with junk like half naked Napoleonic French old guard women armies, or poor companies like mantic creating a cheap poor quality model range simply to spite other companies and get laughs from haters.

By Fire and Sword finished up a couple weeks ago. I think there was another on Indiegogo too for a 28mm Prussian army that funded as well. The historicals don't come up as often from what I've seen but they are there. Between here, TMP, and TGN it seems like most of the miniature related KS' seem to get posted at least a couple of times.

TAG going ahead with the Tudor range ?  If only they would give us updates on what's happening  They don't reply to emails, no news what so ever. A lot of people have paid good money and don't know what's going on.   THE CID.

This is not the place/thread to discuss your unhappiness with TAG.  Edit: Forgot to say "please" - it seems excessively abrupt without that.

You could have stopped at "money" and not turned this into a personal vendetta against companies like mantic or people who like "... half naked Napoleonic French old guard women armies..." you know.

I think it fits better here. AotBB is a bit too specific.

Thanks, I was unsure where it fit best.

To make it somewhat embarrassing personally, Other Adventures is a forum I seem to have a mental block about.  It's like I don't see it on the computer screen most days.

Gracias,

Glenn
