I've been chopping up the Perry Bow & Bill, Mercenaries & Men at arms boxed sets to create a unit of French pikemen.
The unit will represent Picard pike of the Therouanne garrison c. 1513. I have equipped them with pavise as a bit of a leap of faith based upon the French trained and equipped Scottish troops of James IV of the same year.
I'm guessing the rationale would have been the same in an attempt to reduce the effect of the longbow when facing the English......and I can paint nice liveries on the pavises !

Here's the first of the new batch of assembled figures to be painted.
I wanted to have a go at painting some religious iconography, not sure if it's worked to be honest - a bit gawdy perhaps? what do you think?
