1/300 Ship kits...

Not sure if it is the right forum to post... But it is 17cish... I am currently trying to build a few ships in 6mm scale http://codetroll.blogspot.dk/2013/07/hms-sophie-part-i.html based on the fine ships made by Mark Burges (link to his blog in the post as well).



I have managed to track down some officers, guns and crew at Rod Langtons.. But was wondering if any one knows about fittings in this scale, wheel, bell, anchors etc??

First of all.. I referenced Mark Burgess blog and promised that a link to it would be found in my own post.. It actually hid in an earlier post I made, so to do him justice here is a link to the original 1/300 HMS Sophie.



I got a little further with my own version, the new masts have been done and the entire ship has been covered in black gesso and is now ready for painting.


You can follow the progress here. I am still looking for good suggestions for where to find anchors and stuff like that in 6mm scale..  Or ideas on how to make a wheel etc out of other things. It might actually fit the entire craft your self boat better as well

My little experiment is finally getting near completion. After some tests on coloring (or rather the correct yellow to match the black ship) I ended up with the color below.



I also decided to change the placement of the yellow color to brighten the ship up a bit:

The masts got the same yellow color as the outside of the ship:

Onwards to rigging, first the ratlines (I am still considering doing the horisontal ones as well).


Rigging completed (unless I decide to go for the extra mile with the ratlines):

But various fittings are hard to find.. sigh

First.... @grant - sorry.. I did try to do the rigging, but it took way too much time for just one horisontal line. I need to get 3 more ships done in 1½ week (the sooner the better, as I need to test out rules as well). BUT... once I have all 4 ships done I might revisit them and finish the rigging.. because you are right.. it IS worth it.

But on to the pictures of the last few stages of HMS Sophie:


Fixing sails with pva glue.


Sails are done.. As you can see on the foresail?, I made an error in using superglue to attach the line to the sail.. It changed towards transparant..
