25mm Jezails (Eastern Muskets) Where?

Hi All,

As I'm putting together a 28mm Barbary Pirates / Corsairs, I've been doing alot of conversions and...

*** I'd like to know who makes 25 or 28mm Jezails (Eastern muskets)? ***

I have photos of my crew in progress here:

http://6mm-minis.blogspot.com/2008/04/mini-wargaming-28mm-barbary-pirates-27.html

I know that Ral Partha used to manufacture them, but I can't find an entry for them at the Ironwinds or Ral Partha Europe sites.

I took a gander at RAFM and didn't see any either.

*** Does anyone make 25mm Jezails anymore? ***

*** Any ideas, guys? ***

I found some cool conversions, one with a Ral Partha Jezail here:

http://www.zeitcom.com/majgen/836sherli8f.html

Thanks ahead of time!

Shabbat Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

No Prof, a Jezail is an Afghan long flintlock or matchlock musket.

Not something Barbary Corsairs would actually have, but that is by the by with pirate gaming, of course.  :)

Don't know who might make separate ones I'm afraid, Maks.

Hi Guys,

Thank you.

I did not mean a Jingal, but the kind of long flintlock rifles used in Afghanistan and among the Arabs and Persians.

Hi Guys,

Quote from: "Plynkes"

The above photo is of the sort of firearm I'm looking for.

They don't specifically have to be a Jezail, Jingal or that sort...

I'd like to find some flintlock or matchlock firearms with that sort of curved stock that gives such a nice look.

Ral Partha used to make 'em...  :?

Right you are, Cap'n Plynkes!

My Barbary crew sort of morphs into an Ottoman crew... or Indian crew... or Chinese pirate crew... or whatever sort of crew they need to be short of Gobbos and Skellies!

Thanks again, mate!

Shabbat Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Well that's part of the fun of pirate gaming. And while perhaps not 100% historical, a jezail isn't going to look out of place in the hands of a corsair (it's not as if you're giving him a Roman pilum or an AK47). It certainly has the right feel.

Eureka also makes a jingal

http://eurekamin.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=87_126_170&products_id=2024

Not quite as nice as the foundry ones but certainly cheaper

Hope that helps :)

North African muskets would typically look as shown here:

http://www.gunsandammomag.com/classics/GA_Islam_200803/

You can easily see the differences and similarities to the jezzail shown right below it.

The Essex X1 Eastern Musket (I ran down some of these at Brookhurst's old location on first arriving in Califirnia, nineteen years ago!) or TAG's Ottoman Musket will give you a fairly generic solution, not being overtly Moroccan or overtly Afghan (or Indian, or Persian...).  Just make sure to paint them with lots of decoration!

Maksim-Smelchak,

Contact IWM directly.  They have a mailorder only catalogue that's on CD that may have the stuff you are looking for.

Melissa may be able to do some searching if you have any product numbers available to get her started.

See also Kipling's 'Arithmetic on the Frontier:

A scrimmage in a Border Station—
A canter down some dark defile—
Two thousand pounds of education
     Drops to a ten-rupee jezail—
The Crammer’s boast, the Squadron’s pride,
Shot like a rabbit in a ride!
