Need your opinion on uniforn colors...
« on: 11 December 2013, 11:13:39 PM »
I'm doing some US cavalry to aid my "Secret Service" Coy.  Should I go with khaki pants and dark blue tunic or stick with the light blue pants with the dark blue tunic. My Sgt is going to have a few pieces of left over equipment from the Civil War...he was a Confederate, so he'll have his old grey kepi, maybe even his old grey frock coat...My Captain will be dressed in buckskins...

I'd probably go with light blue.  This will make your Capt stand out even more.

The Secret Service will be mounted in some sort of steam carriage, and I have a few steam horses to mount a few of the cavalry...

This was a transitional period for US Army uniforms. I would stay with dark blue tunic, light blue pants. Slouch hats by this time were khaki/drab. The army really didn't start issuing khaki uniforms until 1898, as far as I can tell.
I was talking aloud to myself. A habit of the old: they choose the wisest person present to speak to; the long explanations needed by the young are wearying.

Pictures please  :D

A lot of people here have been talking about how to represent the Cody Steam Horse so we'd be interested to see how you have done it.

And Goats!

I have about 12+ of both for Spain on Venus that may be discarded if I shift to 15 mm.

Very nice stuff, have not seen any on Ebay (not currently actively searching though) lately.

Gracias,

Dark blue tunic, light blue trousers.

I find that with VSF, the closer to history you go, the better it gets.

Kind of a 'willing suspension of disbelief' thing.

Yup, still refuses to believe the South lost. He'll be a Sgt. for life. Bit of a drinking problem he has and a temper, he's often busted down to private at the whim of his Major, but by episodes end he always gets his stripes back...
