New Barbershop in town
« on: 13 March 2014, 11:00:36 AM »
A DMH-building with the following conversions:

1. The porch flooring was supstituted with my own in order to limit height and total height of the building.
2. The barber-pole (don't know what its real name is) was stolen from an old barbershop from mu Whitewash buildings
3. An ekstra door-opening was cut for the backdoor, leading to the outhouse. The door inserted here was purchased from 4Ground. Which leads me to post a wish. Why don't you at 4 ground make a set of atual functioning doors, that we can add to our buildings.
4.The outhouse (also a DMH-building) was glued to the shop, and function as the bathroom
5. A dirt floor was made in the outhouse
6. The letters on the sign was printed out, the mirrored, and then transferred to the sign itself. After that they were all painted up with the light blue colour
7. The dust on the roof was added using modelling dust from "Rust-all"

I must say that it was a breeze to assemble these small buildings. Everything was a snug fit, and I had no major problems. The entire project took me around 6-7 hours in total. The DMH buildings are really great. But as you all know more wants more, so my wishlist will include:

1. Black smith
2. Church
3. Train Station
4. Ranch (main building, barn, fencing an d barracks)
5. Homestead
6. Courthouse/cityhall (like the one from "Hang them high")
7. More outhouses and barns
8. Bank (brick building)
9. An old west fort

...and if I had a couple of more minutes I could come up with several more wishes  :)

Very nice building! I used the Sarissa lasercut building with the biggest and most windows to make a barber shop. White seemed to be the proper colour for the inside too, although mine hasn´t got an outhouse or bathroom:

Not one, but two nice uses of the MDF kit.
Hats off to you, fellas.
 :-*

I shall not be heading to either of them soon, though.... ::)

One question: Is the red, white and blue sign standard for the Old West?
I will be doing my own version soon(ish) and was going to go for red and white only...

I investigated quite a bit: Barbers used to be medics too and wound bloodsoaked linen around white poles in medieval times, therefore the white and red. American barbers adopted the national coulours and added blue. Red and white should work for old west just bas well.

 :D

I had a feeling that it had something to do with the national flag but also thought that it may have been a little bit 'fantasy'.

I think I shall stick with my original idea of red and white as it has always suggested 'barber' to me.

I have made use of Sarissa's kits as well. Here is my Assay Office
I have recently received the corner hotel (will be a saloon) from Sarissa

With perhaps just a splash of red on the floor?  ;)
