Camels: Repaint ?
« on: 02 July 2008, 05:20:40 AM »
Before I repaint this,
I had a few of the old Foundry mounted British infantry from their Boer War line.  So I traded Bimbashi Lewis something, dont' quite rememer what, for some camels.  I think that the camels were... Blackthorn, Blacktree, Black Arts... Not important right now.
However, 'East Coast Herb' (different membership group) tells me that the jackets are the wrong color for 1882 Camel Corps. Mine are too blue, and they really should be more grey.
So how far off am I ?

Rergards,

Given the nature of the sun (& its effects), the dust and the non washing in that campaign, I don't have a problem with that colour.
Cheers,

Here's a link to a colour guide for British troops in the Sudan by Michael Perry.  Your jackets may be a touch too blue but they'll probably pass.  Maybe you could give them a light coating of dust to tone them down.

A quick dry-brush with pale grey should do the trick! Personally I wouldn't be too bothered - he looks fine to me, but maybe a dark blue wash over the puttees, as they should be noticeably darker than the tunic  :)

Aye - the grey could turn its shade a bit depending on the lighting. That looks fine but your could add a lighter and greyer highlight if you really wanted. Your colour would be a perfect shade.

I do love the Camel Corps  :)

The camels themselves look a bit like the Castaway arts ones.

And remember, we paint miniatures and don't do 100% realistic models. With the size of the minis you have to overdue colors a little bit in order to achieve effects that actually help us to see the details. Of course that is only my personal opinion...
