Wargames Factory plastic AWI getting my paint on!!!
« on: 23 June 2014, 03:10:54 PM »
Hello everyone. I thought I would share my progress on assembling and painting both a British force and American force utilizing the new Wargames Factory plastics.

The painting style is more of a tabletop look than it is for painting competitions. The style may not be everyone but it looks cool from the standard 3-4 feet that we normally look at miniatures when playing. I normally spend more time blending my highlights but I thought I would give this technique a try as it is faster to paint and I want to get loads of miniatures on the table.

The medium sized 'element' (unit) of militia is what I plan on using for my rules system, Land of the Free. I also show progress on my 2nd Maryland Regiment (blue coats) and the 9th Virginia (brown coats).

Well, the files were too large to post on the forum so please feel free to check out my updates on my blog at www.landofthefreewargaming.blogspot.com

Joe

Nice paint..

But can anything be done when assembling them to fix the overly wide shoulders ?

I think the shoulders aren't too bad. The drummer is a burly chap, but the rest looks fine to me. Very nice brushwork!

Thanks for the compliments guys. I appreciate it.

Well, they always say that the camera adds 20 lbs. :)

They really aren't that bad when you see them in person. I have a few Perry British Grenadiers and they rank up rather well. I wouldn't say perfect but well enough you wouldn't notice on the tabletop.

actually, you don't have to upload them here, just a link to the picture with "[ img]" and  "[ /img]" withouth the space between the brackets would work.

Thanks guys and thanks for the tip on posting links. I will give it a try next update. Unfortunately, no painting so far this week. I am busy reading through the final edit of my book, Land of the Free, this week so it put a strangle hold on my hobby time this week.

I am hoping to have the command stand based and finished this weekend along with some British light infantry. I think my pattern is going to paint one 4 man stand of a unit and then switch to a new unit. This should keep me interested in painting although it will prolong my projects.

Thanks again guys

I'm still not sold on the miniatures (and unfortunately have more than enough AWI figures to paint at home), but I really like how you painted them. Not a quick and dirty tabletop standard job at all. The extra highlights show how much can be done with dipping as basis.

Lovely paint jobs on those and also love the casualty markers 8)

Not so certain on the minis, I think you would struggle to best Perry/Foundry for this period in my opinion. They arent bad mind you but things as already mentioned jump out in comparison with the aforementioned ranges.

Thanks Warboos Nick and Lowtardog. I appreciate the kind words. Its always hard to release miniatures in the historical market because of the competition, lack of protection (no copyrighting), and need for accuracy. Those fantasy and sci-fi companies have it easy because everything they create really can't be questioned. Although some customers try really, really, really, hard. :)

The Perry's are amazing because they are great sculptors and they are incredibly fast but there are obviously people out there that complain about their accuracy. See above. :)

I have several Perry Miniatures armies ranging from War of the Roses, ACW, and Napoleonics.

I have really enjoyed the WGF range so far and they are really easy to assemble and paint. I think the sets provide some great versatility and knowing all the sets they are releasing I am truly excited to complete my armies once all 6 sets are out.

I wish you guys all the best in your hobbying.

PS. Lowtardog - are you talking about the hit markers that were designed for the game?
