What to see in Munich?
« on: 05 July 2014, 09:54:02 AM »
I'm planning to spend a week in Munich to see some friends. They probably have the mandatory sightseeing well covered, but I thought it would be a good idea to ask here for some ideas. I'm not asking for hobby stores or clubs, but historical sites, exhibitions and so. Thanks in advance!

See the Toy museum nearby the Rathaus.
From old Elastolin figures to a complete (?) collection of Barbies!
Interesting stuff.

If you have an interest in WWII you may see a Me262 and even visit a the inside of an actual U-Boot, so pay a long visit to Deutsches Museum, Apart those there are lots of life size dioramas of the Mining Industry through the ages. My First visit there (many many years ago) inspired me to study geology!

A third one is the Alte Pinakothek (or is it the new one?) with the collestion of paintings by P. von Hess inspired by the Greek War of Independece.

"Deutsches Museum, Munich: Since 1925, this museum has been one of the most important showcases of science and technology in the world. Occupying an island in the Isar River, it features many hands-on and historical exhibits."

I've seen both the Alte and the Deutsches Museum and had a blast. Munich is a really nice city to visit!

As everyone has already noted Deutsches Museum is an amazing place to visit. The BMW museum (and why not factory too if you can) is also worth a visit. And there is no way you can pass going to a Biergarten, but that's probably the most obvious place to visit :)

If you venture out any further Nürnberg has a lot to see as well as having a pretty epic hobby store called Ultra Comix there. Many floors of all kinds of plastic, resin and metal goodies available from all genres. It's about 1,5 hours by train from München
