Finnish Police Officers
« on: 02 October 2014, 09:28:55 PM »
I could have posted this in the Post-apoc thread as it does concern zombies, but I thought this might be more appropriate.

A while ago I stared making a Finnish town. it's not really finished, but other projects have distracted me. However two LAFers in particular have been supportive and helpful, Maxxon and Pocoloco. Both have given me tips and sent me toy cars from Finland, so I thought I would paint a couple of police men and post pictures, by way of a show of thanks for their help.

I used the Mark Copplestone sculpts from Doug at EM4 (thanks Doug). They are not perfect, but I thought they were pretty close to the Finnish Police uniforms and carried a MP5 and a Pump action shotgun, as well as side arms- both weapons used by the Finnish Police. I didn't bother converting them- it would have proved too difficult.

I think they make quite good proxies for the Finnish Police- and until someone sculpts some actutual Finnish Police (not very likely) I am happy to use these (what do you think?)

I like 'em.

I've got to ask ... why Finland? I mean, it's a perfectly respectable country and all, nothing wrong with it and I'm sure it's superior to most ... but still, why Finland?

Awesome! I really like the idea of picking a specific police force to base your cops on and it's even cooler that you picked a nation not-your-own and did some research.

I've acquired a batch of figs and CPD-marked Crown Vics to make a Chicago Police Department force and this makes me want to put it on the top of the list!

I am curious though.. why Finland?

Thanks for sharing. Nice to see you put the cars into good use.

I think the Copplestone figures are close enough. Blue overalls with peaked cap (or beanie in the winter) and black boots and equipment, check. The shade of blue is maybe a tad too light (it should be about the same as on the cars) but, heck, they're the best Finnish police I've seen.

Beemers are not common cop cars, but they do exist and that was available. When I was a kid, they all drove SAABs (as did most civilians who could afford something better than a Lada or a Corolla), but the selection has widened since.

Why Finland? What could be nobler cause than protecting Santa Claus from frozen Russian zombies, ofcourse!

Or do we have a Samuel L. lookalike somewhere there?

Do you have any continuation plans?

Incidentally, the ES -code you see on hood means the car is from Espoo.

Though that is an old marking, supposed to be replaced by a newer unified one. And they're about to change the paint scheme too...

The emergency phone number has changed also, now it's idiotically 10022.

Love the setting, Rob.
It is good to see you continue with this project, a little originality in a common genre.

Maxxon: the police cars do sport the general emergency number 112 on their sides even today.

Here's a YouTube vid about the new colours of police vehicles on the Finnish Police YouTube page:

I generally try to maintain maximum distance from them, but I think the police direct number is also there. Hmmm... it seems the practice varies:
