LRDG colours specifically Desert Pink
« on: 07 December 2014, 03:45:04 AM »
I plan on painting up some 28mm vehicles for use in Chain of Command and was looking for a "Desert Pink Z.I." based on Mike Starmers info on the MAFVA site (Google is my friend). He wrote;
Mix:  34 + 118 in ratio 4:1.  A provisional mix.  Use as is for model.
In use:  1942-43 Egypt, Western Desert and Tunisia;  Introduced by G.O1650 of October 1942 as new basic colour with disruptive colours on certain classes of vehicle or on its own.
Description:  Earthy pink or warm sandy pink locally produced.

Can anyone tell me the Vallejo equivalents of these or if there is a Vallejo jar suitable for brushing or air brushing these vehicles, please?
Cheers,

may be using Vallejo model color 815 basic skintone ...
Dans les situations critiques, quand on parle avec un calibre bien en pogne, personne ne conteste plus. Y'a des statistiques là-dessus.

Hi Pete,

Please look at Vallejo Panzer Aces Flesh Base. Could be very close to the mark. Apply base. Wash with a soft tone. Re-apply with whatever technique you do.

All the best,

Helen
Best wishes,

Hi Pete are you hoping the Italians will see the pink trucks and go "Ah mama mia he is in touch with his feminine side, lets not shoot him"?  :-*

If it's anything like the pink used on post war SAS Land rovers then Flesh base won't do it. That's a rather warm flesh colour. The post war version for the SAS pinkies was a mix of white and red oxide IIRC, I should imagine the original was a similar mix.

Hi there,

The Mike Stammer's books  that I've do have a paint chip very close to the actual colour and I must say that the suggestion made is quite near the mark. He does say that it can be after a while the colour of a house brick in England. Now if you wish to look at all variables of colour fading from origins to hard-wearing campaign than that's okay too.

All the best,

Helen

Is Vallejo U.S Tan Earth 70.874 any good? It is a bit pinky, brown if I recall correctly. I think I might have seen it suggested somewhere??

Ok scrap that then. Some suggestions here:http://www.flamesofwar.com/Default.aspx?tabid=110&art_id=853&kb_cat_id=27
