Knights of God
« on: 17 February 2015, 07:21:20 AM »
I recently rediscovered this old ITV series from 1987, even securing a copy of the novelisation by the series writer; Richard Cooper (I think he also did the 80's Michael Praed Robin of Sherwod series). Set in 2020 it follows the attempts of a resistance group in protecting the only surviving heir to the Throne of England after a 20 year civil war has left the country in the grasp of a fascist pseudo-religious military dictatorship, the eponymous Knights of God. There are lots of Arthurian motifs as well; the resistance leader is called Arthur; The leader of The Knights is called Mordrin, the resistance are Welsh the Knights are Anglians; there is a zone called The Wasteland etc.

The first episode (available on YouTube) features an ambush of a Knights convoy by a Welsh resistance force and I thought would make a cool scenario.

The Knights have biker style leathers and helmets, with shoulder pad / tabard style shoulders and breast and tend to be armed with Stirling SMGs or Steyr AUGs.

This rather over-emphasised cover of the German version illustrates their equipment pretty well.

Anyone think where I might find suitable figures, preferably 28mm or 20mm to represent them?

I remember this, albeit vaguely.  :)

Wasn't he guy from Blake's 7 the leader of the Resistance?

Anyway, closest I can think for figures would be the Brotherhood bikers from West Wind's Roadkill range:

A TV show I remember from my youth. Took me years to find out what it was called. I always remembered the main antagonist but didn't know his name. It was from only watching shameless on channel 4 that I found out it was John Woodvine as he played Frank Gallager's dad them did a google search from there and started to watch it online. Only the first few episodes where available which was annoying as I remember it was quite good. It got really good reviews.

In gaming terms I do think they would fit in quite well. The modern knights with uzi's instead of swords reminds me of the Dr Who episode Revelation of the Daleks where a knight is sent to kill Davros. But as for minis I haven't got a scooby.

I hope something turns up cause you've got me quite interested as I'd like to give it a go. Think I'll watch the pilot episode again if it's on youtube.
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass....and I'm all out of bubblegum. No wait I've just found another pack in my back pocket. Mmm tropical fruit bubblicious.

I've decided to go 15mm as someone on another group pointed out the HOF "SFA" figures from 15mm.co.uk as being almost perfect; on the website they even have the red shoulders like the Knights of God!

That will make all the vehicles easy to get and cheaper!

Thanks all. I'll pop up some photos when it gets underway!
