Goblin Town - terrain pieces
« on: 20 February 2016, 08:56:05 PM »
Grandsons Callum (8 ), Aiden (5) and sometimes Nathan (4) play GWs "The Hobbit - Escape from Goblin Town".  The set comes with a few plastic platforms but these were quite limiting after a while.  So I started making more and different terrain pieces out of scrap polystyrene packaging, cocktail sticks, coffee stirrers and any other bits I could find.

The terrain pieces will be used in other games too.

The well - where the goblins come up

The watch tower - I wanted a rickety looking structure and achieved it.  then discovered that it fell over so had to extend the structure for balance!

The jail, cage etc (with opening door)

The fort

Shelters

I love the fact you managed to do stuff considerably better than GW by using a bunch of junk. lol

Nice work.....I like the wooden parts.
I suggest you, for your next works, to use the extruded polystyrene foam....It's the better material to make 3d terrains....
Anyway, very good terrain pieces.

Thanks for the comments.  The whole lot cost only the time, glue and paint.  The cocktail sticks have been in the "useful items" box for years, the coffee stirrers were "donated" by a well known coffee shop, the polystyrene was packaging from a kitchen appliance.  We wargamers need to persuade the packaging manufacturers to use more extruded foam.  So I can get it for free!

Grandsons Callum (8)

8 is the coolest age...

Really good looking pieces there! Lots of interesting shapes, directions and possible objectives for the tabletop.

The price of extruded polystyrene foam (120x60cm), it is around 1£ or few more, but the result is much better.

Or just cover it in pva and dip it in sand. Hides the texture and makes it more sturdy at the same time. :)
