Down down to Goblin-town!
« on: 10 January 2013, 02:53:24 PM »
Happy new year, guys!

Next three years are Hobbit years. I'm totally on the hook. Unfortunately I really diskied the new plastic starter box from GW. I was not sure about the dwarfs and really hated the goblins. Yeah... And then came HvM and his glorious "A Dwarf a Day"-project. When I saw his miniatures live last weekend, I couldn't resist and had to buy a Goblin-town box myself.

It really surprised me that I did not only like the dwarfs but was really happy about the goblins as well... They are probably some of the best GW plastics I have had in hands so far... Unfortunately the GW colour scheme is crap and makes them look awful...

More pictures can be found in my Bolg... ehm... I mean Blog.

I also bought the set but I have not painted anything yet.

I like your Goblin colours - Well done.  They are much better than the film or the official colours.   ;)
I am planning to have various skin colours including some pale greens to match my Moria Goblins.

I also like your Goblin bases with the wood effects - How did you do them?

The Goblins turned out WONDERFULLY! I love the skin tones, brushwork, & the GREAT looking bases. VERY WELL DONE!

Each new batch of Hobbit style Goblins that gets posted makes them look more & more appealing. I'd say "I must be strong", but that's a lost cause.

Nice touch adding the blood.
Maybe one day I'll get around to painting mine.
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

Thanks guys. I appreciate your opinion a lot!

@Deaf Nala: Same here... "I must be strong" lasted till last Saturday... When I saw HvMs Dwarves I went directly to the next store and bought the box (and brought 5 other guys with me... Actually we filled two cars...^^).

@Mick: The wooden planks were cut from balsa wood and have been fastened with knots. You don't have to be too exact with that. It's goblin work... It's not meant to last...
I simply glued them on the base covered a part of them with modelling putty and sand. Simple as that. You even don't have to use balas wood. Just take McD's wooden coffee stirrers and given them some trimming. They are for free...^^

These always make me think of formorians! Somehow they're more "goblin" than the ones from the LOTR films. Really nice painting big fan of those bases too.

I watched the movie today and then went straight into GW to check out what had been released model wise. I almost bought the boxed set but as a friend is giving me his unwanted LOTR collection  :) I thought I'd hold off for now.
I really like the way you painted your Goblins and was surprised how uninteresting the shop demo models looked.

Wow, another great job.  These look really good.   I love the bases and skin colors.

Inspired by this thread, here is my Goblin Town set.

I hate the official white goblins so I painted half of the goblins Green and half in darker flesh tones.
I made silicon push moulds from the planks and used these to make bases for the goblins to match the planking.

I also added some blue to the cloth bits to bring out the colours a bit.

Regards

Mick

That's an excellent idea with getting the bases to match the planking. Can you get some close ups of some of the sections posted. I'd like to see some of the detail on this. Thank you.

Here is the original picture in Flickr.
You can make it bigger using the magniying glass feature.
Then choose the largest size (large 1600)

Here is a WIP photograph of the blue silicon moulds and milliput on the bases.
