Help identifying a uniform.
« on: 27 December 2015, 12:07:29 PM »
Can any of you good people shed any light on the background of this uniform? I know that it's a Czarist Russian Army uniform, but nothing beyond that. If there is anyone that can shed any light on rank, or unit, or exact period beyond early 20th century I would be very grateful. I apologize for the low quality image, I will scan a better one next week when I am home.

We need close-ups of the shoulder board markings and belt buckle Red Graf. Cap badge as well, if you can. The rest is pretty much irrelevant.

If those are crossed cannons on the shoulder board, then artillery. Dark trousers might mean horse artillery, although there are a few options there.

Did Guard units retain their dark green (with red stripe) trousers after the introduction of the 'light' khaki gymnastyorka tunic?

As Mark says a bigger photo would help. The epualettes look like crossed cannon to me, if so that's artillery - which is a start.

Thanks for the help guys. I was traveling in Ukraine when I took the original snap on my phone hence the poor quality. I just got home last evening and will try to get a higher quality image up today with the details you have asked for. The print I have is a modern copy of the original. Hopefully the copy is clean enough to show the details you need.
