Thanks Arthur- you're a star as usual  8).

I'm hoping we can make this thread into something of a resource for uniforms of the Second Afghan War.

To all- please feel free to add your pics!

Darrell.

I'm fascinated by turbans ... I think they look ace.

True story - I had a flatmate in college who had a turban (he was a sikh, in case you hadn't guessed) and I got so used to seeing him wear it, I just stopped seeing it after a while. Then one day he came out of the shower having washed his hair and I was astonished; he had long, glossy hair all the way down his back to his bum. It was an amazing cascade of ebony black hair, like a horse's tail. Sadly he had it cut short a couple of weeks later, because he wanted to looks more 'western'. I don't know why that made me unutterably sad and a little ashamed.
'Sir John ejaculated explosively, sitting up in his chair.' ... 'The Black Gang'.

Are there any pictures of the Rifles out there? I've tried to find some, but no luck.

Also, I've always assumed the officers would have black shoes and equipment along with the men, but have never found anything to confirm this...

I like that picture of the 85th. Another reason that we need  :) British infantry without puttees.

It would be a simple enough conversion job to file down the puttees and then add the trousers me thinks?
