Bad Squiddo - Mistress Ogres
« on: May 19, 2016, 04:15:32 PM »
Here's the latest bit of work sent to me by Annie at Bad Squiddo Games, Mistress Ogres. First up is Hyacinth, the Ogre oracle, and her boisterous toddler. More to follow. I'm told they will all be available to buy at Partizan this weekend.

'Sir John ejaculated explosively, sitting up in his chair.' ... 'The Black Gang'.

And now an Ogre fighter/adventurer and an Ogre hag in the style of Baba Yaga.

Tremendous! These are really nice figures, and the paint jobs are - of course - superb.

They remind me of that out-and-out childhood classic A Book of Ogres and Trolls (by Ruth Manning-Sanders, with illustrations by Robin Jacques). Given the abundance of ogresses in folk and fairy tales, it's a real shame that there aren't more of them in the miniatures market. These ones are a great correction in that regard.

And the paintwork is terrific. What is your recipe for those wonderfully yellowed tusks?

I use a colour I've labelled as 'ochre'. There's a real temptation to have cream or white tusks with things like this, but something I do now with orcs (or even humans with icky teeth) is to keep them deeply yellow, like old stained ivory. The bottom of the tusk/tooth is quite a rich yellowy-brown and then it highlights up to a rich cream colour just at the very tip.

Wonderful brushwork, as usual.

I shall have to remember Olive for use in my Hellboy 40mm collection to use as Baba Yaga or any generic ugly witch type, she may work well.

I might have to pick those up at some point. Although with a name like Hyacinth, I have to ask...is the toddler's name Sheridan?
