It's doable. There is a pic on TMP somewhere of a clutch of empress Brits and airfix figures and they blend in.

Empress are more detailed, airfix slightly taller and slimmer. Equipment is about the same but airfix guns slightly finer and less detailed.

1 on 1 empress win hands down, but mixing a few airfix figures in to round off a platoon should be fine. I would be inclined to use empress heads on the airfix bodies as that would fool the eye more too.

Airfix are fiddly though. And empress now has vehicle crew which are better than airfix.

The Airfix figures are expensive, horrible lumps of brown plastic covered in mould lines. Now there's an Empress vehicle crew there's no need to waste money on them. The vehicles have problems but these are negated if you can get a deal on them.

Well .... the Airfix figs get a bashing but like most figs with some work they can scrub up well. We use them for vehicle crews and Empress for ground troops.

For Tabletop use and durability I'd recommend Empress. There's a bunch of pics on my blog if you want to see them both (Empress figs and Airfix vehicles) being used in games ....

cheers

Here's that TMP link.

Mick is a regular here, so he might pop by and give an opinion if he catches this thread. But from what Dags has said in this post: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=87873.0 and Mick here: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=52786.0 I would be reluctant to take the vehicles on unless I was a fairly proficient modeller.

They look superb, who would think the figures were Airfix?

Hello,

As Arlequin said, I am a regular here.
Here are photos of my collection.  The Empress and Airfix British are near the bottom of page 1.

I suggest that you do not use the Airfix figures and stay with Empress for British Army and special forces.
Empress have an excellent range and the figures are some of the best that you will ever see.
They are correctly equipped and excellent sculpts.
The range is now quite comprehensive with support weapons and good poses.

The Airfix figures are much less detailed.  The guns and radio antenna are quite delicate and will easily break.
Three years ago, the only way to get vehicle crew was to use Airfix, but now Empress even have these.
The Airfix vehicles are detailed plastic kits with lots of parts. They are similar to the Tamiya 1/48 kits.
They are very good but need to be handled carefully.

For special forces, insurgents and clandestine soldiers, have a look at Spectre too.  These are also very nice.
With Spectre, I suggest you only buy items that are "in stock" according to the webstore.
Restocks are sporadic so you may have to wait a long time.

Regards

Mick

Excellent, I did not even have to say his name three times to make him appear.  ;)
