Betrayal at Badab
« on: 23 March 2016, 02:21:42 PM »
Hey folks. I wanted to let you guys know about a project I've been working on that I think some of you might find useful. With the help of Steve Bledsoe, I've been converting over the Betrayal at Calth rules to use for the Badab War. The rules conversion allows for playing Betrayal at Calth on a normal tabletop (converts everything to inches, etc.). Posted now to the blog with regular updates are the following files to download and use for free:

Betrayal at Badab: A rules conversion for Betrayal at Calth

The Command Cards https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz_ZsdSygxe1d01jbm41cnAtdlE/view
The Weapons https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz_ZsdSygxe1NmtoT2phR1dWYjQ/view
The rules conversion https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz_ZsdSygxe1WHhFRDMxTWR5YkE/view

The Command Cards are a unique set for the Loyalists and Secessionists.

The various chapters completed so far:

Astral Claws https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz_ZsdSygxe1YzJXN0V0d0VDRWs/view
Fire Hawks https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz_ZsdSygxe1NVdVQTZXLU5fd0k/view
The Lamenters https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz_ZsdSygxe1Z1BYOGctSWJySHM/view
Mantis Warriors https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz_ZsdSygxe1N1JaUWpvQTdUS3c/view
Red Scorpions https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz_ZsdSygxe1MUJOYkNGT0hUa3c/view
Salamanders https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz_ZsdSygxe1NVBXTGduclVXYlE/view

These lists contain unit cards for a Captain and his HQ (with a character card for the Captain), tactical squads, assault squads, devastator squads, scout squads, and a dreadnought. There are special rules for some of the units that reflect the chapter characteristics and the Captains have special abilities that create unique characters for the chapter. Most of the characters are taken from the Badab War lore, so you might recognize some of the names.

I really like the Betrayal at Calth rules and I think it is perfect for playing games set in the Badab War. I have found that the rules work well converted over to a normal tabletop.

I hope you guys find it useful and if you find any mistakes on the cards, let me know.

Here is the main blog post where I will update the files and post new ones.

Update: All chapters in my original list are now complete and posted. If anyone is interested in a chapter not presented here for the Badab War, let me know and I'll whip one up. If you haven't tried Betrayal at Calth yet, it is an excellent game. I hope you enjoy this conversion if you have used it.

Next up is to add Librarians, Chaplains, Apothecaries, and Techmarines to each force.

Thanks!

While I didn't really love BoC as a game from what I read, the amount of work you've put into this is awesome.  It makes the "game designer" and "mod all the things" parts of me happy!  Well done.  I love seeing fan projects!

Thanks guys! Rules design and tinkering is a big part of the hobby for me, so I don't mind the work. Steve Bledsoe has been a big help editing these too.

Elbows: if you haven't played, you should give it a try. It's a really elegant system. Very tactical. Bolters are actually used for something besides just piling up hits. They disrupt enemy actions, which is a very neat mechanic. The whole system is very streamlined and since it is Marine vs Marine, it's very well balanced.

Played on a normal tabletop using the conversion plays even better than the hex map.

Dude, this is brilliant! When the game came out I was thinking the same thing, but this is way more thought through than anything I could ever come up with. Cudos!
