Badab War Dice Trays: Rolling in Style
« on: May 11, 2016, 09:53:32 PM »
Hey folks. I found a bunch of wood boxes at the craft store and thought they might make good dice trays. I decided to paint a few of them up to go with the chapters my friends and I are doing for the Badab War project. So far I have done Mantis Warriors, Fire Hawks, and Carcharodons. They're pretty simple to do. Details on the blog...

I'm a sucker for colour matched dice and other geeky gaming "aids" like the above.  Nicely done.  Also the glossed wood will give it some serious clatter! lol

Aw man... As if I didn't have enough weird side projects for my various armies and warbands... ;)
Thanks for the inspiration, that's a great idea!

Awesome work! 8)

That should really make your games pop (read: clatter lol ).

I'm with Elbows in his holistic approach to gaming; matching dice, dice tray, cards, templates, stationary, website, phone cover, curtains, lighting; the works. :D  So I think your beautiful trays would be a great addition to every gaming table!

They also can work as setup trays; I was going to do some larger ones for the store with our logo, but my list of only-started projects is long and honorable.

Why most of my games are played with things supplied by others.  ::)

I was going to go with printed pictures sealed to the wood, but yours are smashing!

Well done!

By the way, on the chance these are a little too 'bouncy' and dice tend to fling themselves out, a bit of color-coordinated felt along the inside walls might help.

Thanks everyone!

They are very loud, which I found is the only drawback. I'm thinking of putting felt on the bottom underside to cushion the sound a little. Still, the sound isn't unpleasant :)

Here is a tutorial to make really nice ones that a friend of mine made. They're a little more time consuming but they turn out really nicely!

I'm thinking of making a set like his using printed out images. That way I don't have to hand paint them.
