Reinforcements for the Servants of Ra
Professor Abir regarded the new recruits with some disdain. He preferred the original Company that he had recruited from Northstar, a most reputable supplier of reprobates. In the early days he had been able to obtain liberal amounts of employment for the Company from those who wanted results and were not too fussy about methods. However, employment had dried up. The Servants of Ra needed cash to fund their continuing search for the Regalia of Ra.
The call nowadays was for '300 points' which you had to calculate using the most sophisticated Babbage. It was true that he could not use a Babbage very efficiently but his daughter, Sairah, was most adept. It was she who had calculated that he needed to recruit three more cultists (two with clubs and one with a pistol – why so specific?) and an Hashashin. The Professor had expected a stealthy Hashashin who could launch a surprise attack but instead they had this insufferable fop in his elaborate robes and trinkets.
Sairah had convinced him to use the Crooked Dice agency and they had travelled to Salute, a recruitment fair, down in the heart of the Docks. Abir would concede that the Cultists looked much like those of the original Company but that Hashashin! Sairah carefully explained to him that whilst the enemy were concentrating on the flamboyant character she would be able to slip in close, unnoticed. Perhaps it would work …
The Professor’s reverie was interrupted as Sairah burst in. “Father, now we are up to strength I have got us a tasty job” she blurted out. Excellent, thought Abir, but isn’t securing contracts my job? It seemed he would have to up his game if the young were not to take over.
