Xenofauna: Venomous Frog-Ape of Exelor VII
« on: 06 August 2016, 08:16:23 PM »
Latest project, a Reaper Bones model that I like much better as alien fauna than as a demon in a fantasy setting.

The color scheme is inspired by some real-world poisonous frogs (thank you, Google images).

I've done several of these guys in various shades of green, making this a nice change of pace.  You can only paint so many giant demonic Kermits before you start going stale.

A big chunky figure, mounted on a 60mm base.  Definitely one of the better Bones sculpts if you're concerned about Bendy Model Syndrome.

Pretty happy with this one, although I think the next time I tackle it I'll be doing some conversion work for a more alien/unnatural look.

I like it!
Especially the colour transition from the yellow body to the orange head.

Cool idea and it works well too. The colours are awesome.

Good call!

What sort of conversions do you have in mind? Outside of some possible work around the eyes, maybe multiples, though not needed, looks pretty damn alien to me.  :D

Wow! An excellent rendering of that piece! I just bought the same Bones model with the same basic idea in mind, only instead of the arrow poison route I was leaning towards a red-eyed treefrog look...

Thanks, all.  I considered doing a variation of that red-eyed treefrog scheme, but I was looking for something with less green in it as a change of pace.

As for conversions I was thinking something to make it even less terrestrial looking.  Maybe a head swap or outright removal, or adding some tentacles or extra limbs.  Also some temptation to make it a riding beast/heavy weapon carrier ala a GW Krootox, since they have rather similar builds.
