Daimler MkI armoured car (Warlord Games)
« on: 15 August 2016, 01:16:41 PM »
Managed to finish this Daimler over the weekend, a nice little model & fun to paint (though somewhere pre- assembly I must have lost the Besa in its armoured housing, so had to make one).
It's a somewhat nostalgic subject for me (how many of you out there have owned the Dinky version) as it reminds me of summers on the Isle Of Wight in the 70's/early 80's as a park there (Blackgang Chine) had one (plus a Dingo) for kids to clamber over & in (the days before health & safety realised that it was, in fact a bit dangerous to do so).
So, rose tinted glasses on & here it is (as ever, please excuse terrible phone pics).

Absolutely brilliant work! You've done a great job on the weathering. May I ask as to what colours you used for the green?

Cracking job and I remember the blackgang chine ones but the memory that stays with with me is my action man used to have one or something similar to drive around in. I  have always had a soft spot for British armoured cars though

again great work

Many thanks all, it's a nice little model & was fun to build & paint.
moiterei_1984, the paint was the Vallejo 'UK Bronze Green' AFV painting set - very useful in that it contains shadow/base & three degrees of highlight (plus primer & satin varnish). The downsides are that they give you half-size bottles (8ml) rather than the usual 17ml (I suppose it keeps the price of the set down - but I'd still rather pay a little more for the full sized bottles) & that the three highlight tones are unique to this set & not available seperately.
Over this I used a couple of coats of a Mig Filter (1506 - Brown for Dark Green) & a Mig pin wash (1005 - Brown wash for Green Vehicles). The weathering was done with Mig streaking effects (Grime, Rainmarks & Rust) & the pigments were Vallejo (mostly European Earth with a little Light Sienna & Light Slate Grey - plus some Rust).
Cheers all, now have an AEC Dorchester ACV & a Centurion MkIII (the latter for my Secrets of the Third Reich Brits) to do this weekend, so hopefully some more pics soon.
