No Worries
I reckon good desert bases are the hardest to do
When I was doing some Numidian cavalry in 25mm I guy gave me that tip just inking then highlight the edges of the rocks and some scruby stuff like you did with the vehicles and my cav bases looked 100% better

Good basing really does add more than the actual effort involved, and they have come out very nicely indeed.

One question concerning the front fella in this picture:



Where is he from?
I have him in my VBCW Naval Brigade force and have no idea where he came from and several people have asked.
Maybe you, or someone else, could enlighten me.
 ??? :)
