Convert axis armored transport walker to hover vehicle?
« on: 05 April 2017, 02:37:03 AM »
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestion.  I have thinking about convert in a Dust Axis Armored transport walker to a hover vehicle.  The road block I am running into is how to kit bash the engines.  Any suggestions  would be appreciated.

Are you planning on keeping most of the legs, and just putting thrusters out there?

Do you favor fans, jets, or rockets?

Enquiring minds, don't you know...

At the moment I am thinking of removing the legs completely  (for use in another project).  I am thinking either fans (like this  https://intscalemodeller.com/viewtopic.php?t=5465)  or grav pads (like this https://shop.groundzerogames.co.uk/15mm-stargrunt/vehicles/grav-combat-vehicles/v15-11a.html)   thanks to the minds that are inquiring.

Oh, 'inquiring' is it. Didn't know I was speaking to a toff...  lol lol

Without the legs, have you considered thrusters directly under the beast, fore and aft?

Bit like the Moonbus in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The Axis Walker hull is less amenable to mid-engines, and I'd suggest larger thrust cones.

Exactly what, not sure. I'd think maybe disposable condiment cups as a start.

Edit: One thing that might be suitable, though I was thinking even bigger, are coffee creamers.

There's always the approach taken on the Dust Horton 229 - some AG gubbins with thrusters built in. You could probably mimic the look fairly easily using plastic rod/card, (Evergreen are a good source, with a variety of diameters of rod/tube & thicknesses of card) plus you won't be trying to modify existing kit parts to fit (that said, there are generally plenty of Revell Star Wars kits that you might find fairly cheaply & may provide the type of parts you're after).

Yepper, close to what I had in mind.

Thanks to dakkadakka for this piccie, you will notice that, once the legs are removed, there's a bit of void up front, and larger in the rear, with the hull extending down in the center. Ergo, the 'fore and aft' suggestion.
