3mm Katzbach AAR
« on: 23 April 2017, 08:03:23 PM »
Here are some shots from my recent Katzbach AAR, using Fast Play Grande Armée by Sam Mustafa.  I have much, much more 3mm craziness at my blog, http://1809in3mm.blogspot.com, which highlights the biggest small scale, 3mm.

This entire battle, including both armies, paints, basing and terrain, cost under $100. The armies have been based up using my color-coded eBase system, which you can find a link to at the top of my blog.  Please feel free to use it for your own armies, and let your fellow gamers know about it!

If you like microscopes keep an eye on my blog.  I'm always trying to put out new ideas, such as my eBase system for organizing your troops cheaply and efficiently.  I'm also working on a line of 2mm miniatures that will be unlike any line of figures currently available in any scale.  Details on that adventure coming soon...

As one who has tried doing 3mm, I am very impressed.
Great looking battle and figures.

Thanks!
3mm is a tricky scale, and my blog has sort of become a project where I tried to find the best way to use them. I think I came up with it- as you probably found it it can be tricky basing the things up and getting them to "work" on the table top.  Terrain can dwarf them, bases can look unnatural, there is a lack of pre-made terrain, roads and river can be a challenge. But, I've found that with just a few tweaks you can make them look as good as any scale.  Not only that, but the small size and low cost  gives you the ability to pull off some battles and scenarios you might not otherwise be able to do.

Before tou get started check out my post on mass painting- you can do two medium sized armies in a weekend using foam brushes. 3mm are awesome.

Thanks!  The table was about 5' x 3'.  The individual brigade bases are 1" squares, or 1" x .5" rectangles for the artillery batteries.  This all fit on a smallish kitchen table.  If you use my universal roster system along with 3mm figures and the terrain above you can do any brigade-base scenario in 3mm for very little outlay.  My next goal with this project will be one of the bigger battles in the period, not sure which one yet.

The scenario is here:  http://www.deepfriedhappymice.com/GA_Scen_Katzbach.pdf
