Considering a Fantasy Celt army

What oh chaps. "Low Fantasy" has been my favourite gaming genre since I was at school (in ancient times) but Warhammer Fantasy seemed to lose more of its appeal (for me) with every new edition until I dropped it completely more than a decade ago; in fact, 28mm in general lost much of its appeal.

I've been following, and enjoying, Grubman's and Major Gilbear's 10mm threads of late and have been compelled to dig out a load of 10mm TB Line Gauls which I purchased several years ago and have done nothing with. Building a 10mm Celt army seems an enjoyable endeavour.

I have the infantry, cavalry, Gaesatae and chariots covered. I'll add a couple of giants, some Druid type character models and probably a war-dog pack and handlers (the Eureka wolf hounds look very cool). I believe the iron-age Celts had tree spirits and water spirits in their beliefs/mythos so perhaps a unit or two along those lines would fit well with the theme.

Any ideas or suggestions? I'd like to steer clear of anything too clichéd like magical horses or regiments of Leprechauns (although a swarm of "little people", a mixture of 6mm elves and dwarfs clustered around a Druid, holds some appeal). A big flaming wickerman perhaps?

Have you seen the fan made Warhammer Albion pdf, it's pretty good.
Eureka have Brownies, Fae Sprytes figures in their Fanticide range, supposed to be 10mm.

I had considered something a little similar at one point. Since it involves a bit of speculation anyway, I was considering giants, giant animals, elementals, and some varieties of undead as being within the realm of my "historical fantasy" idea.

I was thinking of the giant animals in terms of being not just bigger animals, but sort of like an "epic" version of the animals. Sort of like the animal equivalents of epic heroes of human legends -- capable of incredible feats, etc. "Supernatural" might be a good term?

There is a 28mm resin wickerman out there somewhere, a centrepiece ginat for any army.

Don't forget Herne so antlered humans in a warband. And Dragons, lots of Dragons, and Formorion Ogres as well.

Celtos miniatures will have some nice pieces for you and also check Alternative armies celitc myth line for some lovely gods etc

Corum! You definitely need Corum, as well as a Celt hero with a little goblin buddy, who can warp himself into a monster!

If you really wanna go all in, try a special Slaine with a gun, a ley-ser, since we all know the druids protect earth from supernatural beings! Okay this is maybe a bit to much and silly...but seriously Corum as a major hero would rock and also allow you to bring on some monsters.

ah read it wrong, now alternative armies used to do some nice 15mm celts but haven't seen them for a while

Thanks for the replies chaps; lots of good and useful ideas. It seems I'll be persuing this in the near future.

I had a closer look at Eureka and it looks like their Woodland creatures pack, with the sprytes and hunting dogs, will be perfect for a "wild hunt" regiment, led by Cernunnos - straight out of the Gallic pantheon. .

Ainsty do a superb wicker man but for 10mm it would be gigantic; I may try my hand at building one myself.
